This is "off season," which means this is open to visitors, friends from other clubs, non-competitive paddlers, and new paddlers. If you've always wanted to learn to paddle, or are simply yearning to get back on the water, come on down!
From the top:
- Sunset Paddle - Each Tuesday and Friday, 5:30 pm. U`i will coordinate Tuesdays, MC will coordinate Fridays. Kruser and some of the other coaches will be there to help with stroke and technique.
- Ahiho'ole'ale'a - Fireworks Paddle - The last Friday of the month we'll head out at 6:30 pm to watch the fireworks (coming up: October 29).
- Sunday Paddle - We'll start going out Sunday mornings on November 14.
- Sunday Nov 7 - `Iako Making - North Shore trip & kanikapila to harvest hau to make traditional `iako for the canoes.
- Sunday Nov 14 - First Sunday paddle; and moving day! We need to move the entire club 100 meters up the Ala Wai to make room for construction activities.
- Paddle Making - We're working with Dirky to set up a day where we'll learn to make our own blades.
Our Rec Season goes through February 2011. We encourage people to come down and paddle with us a few times without commitment. After that we ask for $45 for the season. The money goes to canoe upkeep and to buy new equipment for our practices.
We have a limited number of blades that beginners can use, though we encourage people to buy their own as soon as they can. Contact one of the coordinators below if you're a newbie, to 'reserve' one for practice!
Contact info:
U`ilani (Tuesdays) - 541-7296, or hawneyez@yahoo.com

See you all out on the water!
